The elegant Italian Fashion Designer was born in the city of Reggio di Calabria in Italy. Here, he was brought up with his one elder brother named Santo and a younger sister Donatella with their father and mother. His mother was an eminent dressmaker named Francesca. Gianni also had an elder sister named Tina who unfortunately died when she was twelve years old due to an unsuccessful treatment of infection of tetanus.
Versace began his training at a very tender age by helping his mother looking for valuable stones, helping his mother find precious stones and gold plait so that they could be embroidered in the dresses which she used to design and make. The designer also studied architecture. After that he moved to the second largest city of Italy i.e. Milan at when he was 25 to become a fashion designer.
The knits created by the sizzling designer caught the eyes of the head hunters at Genny and Callaghan in the period of mid-seventies. He was then employed by Complice for designing their elegant collections of leather and suede. After a few years, Versace, as a result of the encouragement he got from his success, exhibited his first ever Signature Collection for women at the Milan’s Palazzo della Permanente Art Museum. Thereafter, he presented his first collection of menswear in the month of September of the same year. Gianni accompanied Jorge Saud after his presentation of first menswear collection. Versace opened his first boutique in Via della Spiga of Milan, in the year 1978. The designer was also a great admirer of Andy Warhol, Ancient Roman Art, Greek Art and Modern Abstract Art.
